A metal roof is only as good as the details you cannot see from the street — the clips, the fasteners, the flashing and the underlayment beneath it. That is where we spend our attention.

Why Metal

What makes metal a strong fit for South Florida

Reflects the sun

Light and reflective finishes reduce heat gain into the attic compared with darker roof surfaces.

Sheds heavy rain

Smooth, continuous panels move water off the roof quickly during summer downpours.

Engineered attachment

Panels, clips and fastening schedules are designed and tested as systems for wind resistance.

Lightweight

Metal adds far less weight to the structure than tile, which can simplify a material change.

Coastal options

Panel materials, coatings and fasteners can be selected for homes close to salt water.

Design flexibility

From sleek standing seam to traditional 5V and shingle- or tile-look profiles, metal suits many styles.

Panel Types

Three ways to put metal on a roof

Standing Seam

Vertical panels joined by raised seams, with fasteners concealed beneath. It is the clean, architectural look most people picture when they think of a modern metal roof.

  • Concealed fasteners
  • Modern, minimal profile
  • Wide color selection

5V Crimp

A classic Florida profile with five V-shaped ribs per panel, fastened through the face. It brings an Old Florida character and is a familiar sight on cottages and coastal homes.

  • Exposed-fastener system
  • Traditional Florida look
  • Fasteners need periodic checks

Stone-Coated Metal

Metal panels coated with stone granules and pressed into shingle, shake or tile profiles. A way to get the look of tile or shingle with a lighter-weight metal roof.

  • Tile- or shingle-look profiles
  • Lighter than concrete or clay tile
  • Textured, low-glare surface

FAQ

Metal Roofing Questions

Is a metal roof louder in the rain?

Over a solid roof deck with underlayment and an insulated attic, most homeowners find rain noise similar to other roof types. The noisy metal roofs people remember are usually installed over open framing, like a barn or carport.

Will a metal roof rust near the ocean?

Salt air accelerates corrosion of metal and fasteners, so material and component choices matter on coastal homes. Panel material, coating system and fastener type should all be selected with your distance from salt water in mind. We discuss these options during your estimate.

Does a metal roof make the house hotter?

Not necessarily. Lighter or reflective finishes reflect much of the sun’s energy, which reduces heat gain into the attic compared with a dark surface. Color choice and attic ventilation both play a role.

What is the difference between standing seam and 5V crimp?

Standing-seam panels use raised seams with concealed clips or fasteners, giving a clean look with fewer exposed screws. 5V crimp is an exposed-fastener panel with a traditional Old Florida look. Exposed-fastener systems need periodic checks of screws and washers over time.

Can metal go over my existing shingle roof?

Some codes and manufacturers allow it under certain conditions, but in most cases we recommend tearing off down to the deck so the deck can be inspected and properly fastened. We will explain what is permitted and advisable for your specific roof.

Does lightning strike metal roofs more often?

Metal roofs do not attract lightning. Lightning tends to strike the highest point in an area regardless of the roofing material.
